it made my day

new day

I saw this site and just had to share.  It has nothing to do with the Compact or frugality or environmentalism or design or anything at all really.  But it made me chuckle and that’s worth something.

It Made My Day!!  Little Moments of WIN is a collection of everyday situations.  There is nothing terribly special about the situations except that they may be funny.  Here are some moments that made me laugh, and look for new opportunities to say IMMD.

I was digging through my old first grade notebook today. In response to a prompt that read “I am happy to be a kid because…” I wrote, “I can sit on the toilet backwards and yell Yeehaw!” IMMD.

There was a power outage in my dorm, and while I was walking through the pitch black halls someone started whistling Luigi’s Mansion. IMMD!

My 12 year old daughter ran up to me with her iPod. She put one earbud in each nostril, cranked up some tunes and the music came out of her mouth. Then she opened and shut her mouth making it seem like the music was going on and off. IMMD!

Do you have an IMMD moment?

random thoughts and comic goodness

As you know, I am pretty much addicted to my bread machine to make wonderful bread, ready and warm upon getting out of bed in the morning.

You will not only feel like an idiot, you will be hungry to boot.  I cannot tell you my disappointment this morning upon realizing that is exactly what I did last night.  Another tip: probably a good idea not to try making bread after traveling with a small child, arriving home late, unpacking and then trying to be productive before bed.

Just a thought.

Off to be productive.  Before noon.  As recommended.  By somebody.

fun and frugal – what more could you want?

And if that’s not enough for all of you, my favored readers I give you this…

lat-thriftyMan, what a bargain

Typically I will refrain from simply posting links to other stories but I just thought this was too good to pass up.  It actually came to me from my husband.  He might be a little unsure about which bag a particular item of trash get’s recycled into but he is always thinking of you, dear readers.  Or thinking of my thinking of you.  Whichever is the culprit he passes this nugget on and so I give it to you.

A reporter for the Los Angeles Times wrote an article for the Business section about thrift stores.  And this is not the article you might think.  It is not about how well thrift stores are doing in this time of recession and spend-thrift.  Or about how thrift stores are lacking for goods as people are hanging onto their stuff longer instead of replacing everything at break-neck speed.  Both of these may be true, I don’t know, I haven’t done any studies.  Or asked anyone for that matter.  (Digression, I know, I know.)  This great article is about how this particular newsman gets his fabulous, high end, designer wardrobe from thrift stores!  And if you live in the Los Angeles area he even names names!  It makes me want to run out just to see what I can find.

Hey, maybe I can find a Chanel suit and that elusive potato masher!  What’s the best thing you’ve found at a thrifty?
